This isn’t strictly required, but until you enter the passwords these users will be unable to turn the computer on. You may be asked to enter the passwords of other user accounts on the computer. If it’s not enabled, click the padlock icon in the lower-left corner and then click the button to Turn On FileVault. If it’s already enabled it will say so here. Go to the Apple menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > FileVault. Encryption rewrites your data in code that only your password can decipher, so that if the data gets stolen it’s useless. A password is like a lock on your door: you can still come in through a window or hire a locksmith. There is a huge difference between password protection and encryption. There are still ways someone can override your password or connect your Mac to another Mac and copy your files off. If it’s a FileVault password then great, but if you don’t explicitly enable FileVault, your login password is nothing more than a deterrent from someone casually sitting down at your computer and using it. But I already have a password to get into my computer Once it’s enabled you won’t even know it’s on. It sounds like it could be a lot more complicated, but it’s surprisingly easy to use. Filevault encrypts all of the contents of your computer so that you and only you can access it should your computer be lost, stolen, or damaged. But many of us are not using one of Apple’s greatest security features: FileVault. One of the reasons we love Mac is that they are very secure. To assemble the chalkboards, lay the board back face up. Glue and nail the corbels into the bottom corner of the frames. Use a band saw, scroll saw or jig saw to cut out the corbels. Mark about 1/4″-1/2″ from opposite corners and use a round object to trace a curve. With some of the scrap 2″ piece, cut 4 pieces that are 2″ x 2″. Glue and secure the other leg onto the rails. Make sure the good side of the chalkboard is on the opposite side of the pocket holes. Glue and clamp another rail at the 24 1/4″ mark, secure with 2 – 1 1/4″ pocket hole screws. Secure the rail with 2- 1 1/4″ pocket hole screws. Glue and clamp a rail to the top of one of the legs. Note: you may want to consider painting the edges that have the chalkboard grooves before assembling the frame. On each of the legs, measure and mark down 24 1/4″ from the top. You’ll want to try and keep the pocket holes away from the edge you cut the groove. Dry fit the chalkboard and make sure it’ll fit in the groove.ĭrill pocket holes* in both ends of the backside of the rails. This is easiest done with a router and 1/4″ straight bit. Center the groove and cut it 1/4″ wide and 3/8″ deep. We also need to cut the groove in the legs, starting from 1 5/8″ from the top to 7 1/8″ from the bottom. You can cut this groove on the table saw or with a router and a 1/4″ straight bit. Down one of the long edges cut a groove in the middle that is 1/4″ wide and 3/8″ deep, feel free to do a little deeper to give yourself some wiggle room. We need to cut a groove in the rails for the chalkboard to fit. When using the cheap 1×3’s I like to trim the edges on the table saw and hopefully end up with straight edges. FYI: The chalkboard paint is supposed to cure for 3 days before use. This Home Right Finish Max Pro* worked great on both the primer and chalkboard paint, a real time saver. Since I was making a bunch of these, it was so handy to use a paint sprayer. Follow the instructions on the chalkboard paint can to apply the chalkboard paint. Sand the good face of the plywood as necessary.
Two of Testa's underbosses have been described as responsible however, no actual suspects have ever been named. At the time he and several associates were under federal indictment for their activities Testa's killing sparked a four-year war for control that left 30 other mobsters dead. Philip Testa (56), known as "The Chicken Man", was killed when a nail bomb exploded under his porch as he stepped into his Philadelphia house on 15 March 1981, the second local mob boss to be assassinated within a year.Extensive investigation has been conducted with few leads, and has been unsuccessful. The Harris County Does consist of two currently unidentified murdered youths discovered on 12 January 1981, in Houston, Harris County, Texas near Wallisville Road. The man who found her, now in prison for killing his wife, is considered a person of interest. Her body was identified in February 2015. Carol Cole (17), was discovered stabbed to death in Bellevue, Louisiana in January 1981, after her 1980 disappearance. She was killed by strangulation and beating, also being sexually assaulted. A possible runaway matching her description was reported by a witness to have asked for directions to a prison unit, which she never arrived to. Sherri Jarvis, is a formerly unidentified 14-year-old girl whose body was found on 1 November 1980, in Huntsville, Texas, United States. His death is believed to have been ordered by the Commission as punishment for the unsanctioned killing of Bruno, but no suspects have ever been identified. Another Philadelphia mobster believed to have been involved in the Angelo Bruno assassination, Frank Sindone (52), was found dead with three gunshot wounds in the back of his head in a South Philadelphia alley on 29 October 1980.Authorities believe she may have been the victim of human trafficking. Tammy Terrell, a formerly unidentified seventeen-year-old, was discovered on 5 October 1980, in Henderson, Nevada. There has also been a series of suspicious deaths, murders or suicides among people involved in or investigating the case, further raising suspicion of a conspiracy. Whatever the cause, the investigations have been criticized as ineffective, and no culprits identified. The explosion that killed all 81 on board Itavia Flight 870 near the Italian island of Ustica on 27 June 1980, has been variously attributed to a bomb or a missile strike.War saxophonist Charles Miller (41), who co-wrote and sang their hit " Low Rider", was killed during a robbery in Los Angeles on 14 June 1980.He was believed to have ordered the killing of his own boss, Angelo Bruno, a month earlier over a drug dispute since he had not gotten the approval of the Commission he was himself killed at their order. The naked and beaten body of Antonio Caponigro (68), nicknamed "Tony Bananas", a Philadelphia mobster, was found in the trunk of a car in the Bronx on 18 April 1980, along with that of his brother-in-law Alfred Salerno. Her murderer and cause of death remain unknown, but police believe an unidentified male who stalked Scott with harassing phone calls prior to her disappearance and subsequent murder is the likely suspect. Her car was found burnt out in an alleyway 10 miles (16 km) from the hospital the following morning, and her decomposed remains were discovered in August 1984.
This would basically get the job done if it works on the rMBP as well, but I'd prefer something friendlier. When I did this sort of experimenting on my Macbook Air there seemed to be a method which involved setting the desired setting in smcFanControl in OS X and then sometimes rebooting into windows would have the setting stick. My understanding is that under OS X I can use the smcFanControl app to manually specify the fan RPMs, but I have not been able to find a similar way to control or fix the fan speed once I am booted into Windows. So long as the 105 degree Tj Max point is not passed the computer keeps up with whatever game you're playing just fine. The fans in your computer can get power in one of two ways: From the motherboard, or directly from your computer’s power supply. So I hope this makes it clear that Apple's fan speed scaling is a bit on the conservative side when the temperatures are high.įrom what I can tell, once you get the machine nice and toasty and the load "stabilizes" it will generally be in a state of equilibrium where the CPU core temperatures hover in the high 80's and 90 degrees C, making occasional excursions above 100 degrees C. MACS FAN CONTROL AUTO SETTINGS MANUAL MACS FAN CONTROL AUTO SETTINGS PC If they’re connected to the power supply (usually through a Molex connector), there’s no way to control them through software-you’d have to hook them up to a hardware fan controller. I know that the fans are capable of running higher than the highest they have been recorded to run which is in the neighborhood of 4900 RPM, they should be capable of going to 6000 RPM, which, even though it would be noisy would be keeping the CPU cooler, which is a good thing in my book. This is somewhat inconvenient of course, as it means the CPU has reached a temperature that it should never reach, and also requires a reboot. Gaming on the rMBP under Windows 7 is a very good experience but I have noticed that unless I elevate the chassis there is a tendency for the automatically regulated fan speed to fail to engage a rising computational load fast enough to keep the CPU under thermal shutdown temperature (Tj max) and freeze the machine. Reversing your fan, to a clockwise direction, creates a gentle updraft, recirculating heat down. The airflow directly underneath the ceiling fan should push down, creating a wind-chill effect, which is going to make you feel cool. Whereas traditional fans only raise the temperature in your home ever so slightly, if you're not strategic about the use of your ceiling fan, you can cause your home to heat up significantly. Which way should a fan spin to cool During the summer, use your ceiling fan in the counterclockwise direction. This isn't the only way your fan use could be contributing to the sweat-lodge-like conditions in your home. "Fans may provide comfort, but they will not prevent heat-related illness when the temperature is in the high 90s," says Michael McGeehin, PhD, MSPH, director of CDC's Division of Environmental Hazards and Health Effects. Even worse, the temperature increase they can cause may actually prove to be dangerous. Though this may offer some comfort in moderate heat, it won't do much when temperatures soar. While the current of air your fan creates and blows in your direction might give off the appearance of cooling you down, what you're actually feeling is the evaporation of sweat on your skin. "Fans can make your home even warmer during summer, if you don't use the right way," says Matthias Alleckna, an energy analyst at EnergyRates.ca. Warm air naturally rises, and the gentle updraft created by this setting allows for the redistribution of warm air that tends to accumulate near the ceiling. As is the case with practically any appliance with a motor, fans-due to a combination of their electric current and their moving parts-heat up while they're in use and indirectly warm the area around them as a result. In cooler months, your ceiling fan should be spinning clockwise at a low speed. In turn, you can adjust your thermostat to a lower setting, but still keep warm and save on your heating costs. Your ceiling fan can help distribute and maintain heat pumped out your furnace. The cool air evaporates perspiration and creates a wind chill. Using a ceiling fan in the winter may seem counterintuitive, but it could save you as much as 15 per cent on your heating bills. In the summer, ceiling fans should rotate counterclockwise to push cool air down to the floor. During the winter months, set ceiling fans to rotate clockwise. This motion pushes air down to blow over bodies below, which creates a windchill effect that helps your body feel cooler. In the summer, set ceiling fans to rotate counterclockwise. How do ceiling fans work for colder weather? Ceiling fan direction in the summer and winter changes based on the effect you want to produce. You should also consider installing more than one fan if the room you’re trying to keep cool is larger than 500 square feet. You can adjust them to a larger degree, but any angle above 16 degrees may blow around loose objects. The angles of your ceiling fan blades should be set to a minimum of 12 degrees for maximum cooling. A good ceiling fan can make you feel significantly cooler while saving energy. This helps keep a room’s temperature consistent throughout the day and reduces the need for an air conditioner to run constantly. When your ceiling fan spins quickly in this direction, it pushes air down and creates a cool breeze. Which way should a ceiling fan turn to keep you cool in the summer?ĭuring summer months, your ceiling fan blades should be set to spin counterclockwise. Know what to look out for when making your next purchase with our AC buying guide. To maximize energy efficiency, pair your ceiling fan with an ENERGY STAR ®-certified air conditioning unit, which uses eight per cent less energy than standard models. While it may not replace your air conditioning entirely, a ceiling fan will complement your air conditioning unit and help you save on air conditioning costs in your home. A ceiling fan, on the other hand, uses approximately 50 watts. On average, a standard high-efficiency central air conditioning unit uses 3,500 watts of power when it’s in use. That can be an effective way to remove heat from warm air, but they can be expensive if they’re the only source of cooling in your home. To escape the summer heat, many people rely on air conditioning units to cool their homes. Why use a ceiling fan with my air conditioning? Why? Setting the direction of your fan blades will help you control the temperature in your home, so you can save on both cooling and heating costs. Nearly all ceiling fans have a switch located on the side of the fan base that lets you change the direction of the fan blades. There’s a simple switch that can keep you comfortable in the heat or the cold, depending on the season – and it can save you money. |
